Italian Black Malvasia grape juice produces wine of light to medium body, which can show cherry and plum flavors. Acidity is moderate and the tannin profile soft, with floral notes of fresh violet, dried rose and sometimes green peppercorn.
As a blending grape Black Malvasia is a strong one, adding dark color, floral aromatics and soft fruit richness to red and rose wines. Tuscany has long used it to round out the high acidity of Sangiovese, and it can also be blended with Cabernet Sauvignon to build aromatic complexity.
The wine complements cured meats, prosciutto and medium aged cheeses, and pairs nicely with gnocchi and savory meat dishes.
