One of the most widely planted grape varieties in the world, Cabernet Sauvignon makes a wine generally stronger and fuller flavored than Merlot. The grape is strongly associated with the red wines of Bordeaux, blended there with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec.
It goes well with high fat content meats: ribeye steak, grilled lamb chops, beef short ribs, venison and bison. It also pairs well with aged cheeses and savory vegetables such as broccoli rabe, mushrooms and risotto.
