California Carignane grape juice produces a medium to full bodied red wine with a bright magenta color. The flavor profile can suggest dominant notes of bright red cherry, raspberry, cranberry and strawberry. Aromas can be of violet and rose with undercurrents of black pepper, licorice and baking spices such as cinnamon and anise.
Carignane is predominantly used in blending with Grenache, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Mourvedre and Merlot. The grape is noted for high alcohol, high tannin and a deep purple color.
